What the service does
Our service provides free sexual health advice, testing and treatment for genital infections and other sexually transmitted infections, including
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhoea
- Herpes
- Genital Warts
- Syphilis
- HIV
- Hepatitis
Many people attend the clinic with conditions, which are not sexually transmitted, such as thrush, bacterial vaginosis and other genital skin conditions.
We also provide:
- Vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B
- Vaccination against HPV for men having sex with men (MSM) under the age of 45 years
- Pregnancy testing
- Emergency Hormonal Contraception
- Free condoms to clinic patients
We deliver HIV care to people living with HIV infection.
Patients can also avail of HIV prevention treatments:
- PEPSE: Post exposure prophylaxis following sexual exposure to HIV
- PrEP: Pre exposure prophylaxis

- GUM/HIV Consultants
- Specialty Doctors
- GUM Clinical Nurse Specialist
GUM nurses, sexual health advisors, sexual health support workers and an admin team, support the efficiency of our clinics.

Where is the service based
GUM clinics are based in John Mitchel Place Clinic, Newry (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)
Portadown Health and Care Centre (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).
HIV Clinics are based in John Mitchel Place, Newry and Craigavon Area Hospital.
For patients newly diagnosed with HIV or wishing to transfer their HIV care from another Health and Care Trust, contact our team on 028 375 62080 and ask to speak with the Consultant Secretary.
