Our Delivery Suite at Craigavon Area Hospital is located on the ground floor and provides 24-hour care during labour and birth.
Our midwives and maternity support workers in the delivery suite work closely with their obstetric colleagues to ensure safe, woman-centred care to mothers and their babies during their birth experience.
When you present in labour, you will be seen in the maternity admission and assessment unit and your plan for birth location will be discussed with you. The maternity and admission and assessment unit is open 24/7 and offers support, advice and assessment to you throughout pregnancy should you have any concerns.
The Induction Bay is located within the Delivery Suite. When you come in for Induction of labour, a midwife will discuss this process with you and what is involved.
The midwife will make a decision with you regarding your method for induction, depending on your previous births, obstetric history and whether you waters have broken.
Various methods of pain relief will be provided when required. These options will be discussed during the process.
We actively encourage you to have a mobile and active birth experience, promoting a spontaneous vaginal birth where it is the right birth for you and your baby. We also recognise that some women on the Delivery Suite may require medical intervention in order to achieve a safe outcome.
In labour you will be admitted to one of our birth rooms and allocated a midwife who will provide one-to-one care for your family throughout your birth experience.
The delivery suite environment offers all forms of pain relief, including am epidural service.
