The Southern Health and Social Care Trust have introduced iPads to their Domiciliary Care teams which will revolutionise the way care is delivered to patients in their homes.
The move towards modernising this service will free up staff time, allowing them to have more time to deliver care to clients.
The Newry and Mourne team have started their journey to digitise all their care operations by issuing iPad’s to their care staff. This will enable the Trust to move to digital record of all visits instead of traditional printed paper-based notes. This will be rolled out in Newry and Mourne then Craigavon and Banbridge and then finally Armagh and Dungannon locality areas over the next few months.
This move towards technology has many benefits for clients and their families but also for staff.
Claudine McComiskey, Head of Domiciliary Care, said:
“By moving to a digital record, client’s families will be able to have a peace of mind about their loved one’s care as they are able to have real-time access to information, including recorded visits, notes and task completion information.
“Staff will also have access to real-time information to allow for more informed decision making, schedules and rotas and by digitising the administration tasks, will allow them to save valuable time that can be redirected to client care.
“We are delighted that in the next few months we will have an iPad in the hand of every Domiciliary Care worker right across the Southern Trust.”
Brian Beattie, Director of Adult Community Services said:
“The Southern Trust is dedicated to enhancing patient care through innovative solutions and the introduction of iPads to this service does that. We have over 1200 dedicated Domiciliary Care workers who I know have and will receive ongoing support from their teams and supervisors as part of this transformation of service which will ultimately deliver even higher quality care to clients and their families.”
