The Southern Health and Social Care Trust in partnership with The Fostering Network has hosted an awards event for children in care.
Over 80 young people aged eight to 18 received awards for a wide range of achievements, including in education, training, sporting and life skills.Opening the awards ceremony, Mr Colm McCafferty, Southern Trust Assistant Director for Childrens Social Work Services said: “Young people in care often face additional challenges in their lives, and that is why it is so important to recognise and celebrate their successes.
“This celebration event is one of the most important in the Trust’s calendar and continues to grow every year. As parents we are proud when our children do well, and as corporate parents for the young people in our care – we in the Southern Trust are absolutely delighted of all their achievements and want to celebrate with them. .”
Mr McCafferty also thanked foster carers who play such a significant role in assisting Looked after children achieve so much as evidenced by this event
Kathleen Toner, Director of Fostering Network commented: “The Fostering Network is delighted to join today with the Trust to celebrate with all the young people who have worked hard during the past year to achieve success in a range of activities. Well done to everyone.”
The Achievement Awards coincided with a UK wide celebration of Care Day, which is the world’s largest celebration of young people who are care experienced.

An information evening is planned on Tuesday, March 3 in the Seagoe Hotel, Portadown at 7 pm.
