A recent awards ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of young individuals in care.
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust, in collaboration with The Fostering Network, held the event at the Armagh City Hotel on March 20.
More than a hundred young people in foster and residential care were put forward by their social workers and honoured for a variety of achievements.
Stella Kelly, the Interim Assistant Director of Corporate Parenting, inaugurated the awards ceremony, expressing:
“This celebration is a significant event in the Trust’s annual calendar and continues to expand each year.”
“We understand the difficulties faced by young people in care, so it’s crucial to recognise their triumphs when they overcome challenges and achieve success”.
“The children and young people present today have demonstrated an ability not only to achieve, but to excel in their areas of interest. They have shown us that with the right support, hard work and commitment, each and every child can achieve their goals. These achievements will lay the foundations for a bright future and as a Trust we are extremely proud of all of our children and young people’.
Kathleen Toner, the Director of Fostering Network, added:
“We increasingly recognise the significance of the Fostering Attainment and Achievement Program in supporting the dreams of children and young people in foster care. Collaborating with foster and kinship foster carers as primary educators is essential to our achievements, as are the strong partnerships with education and health that allow us to provide tailored support to over 1300 children and young people annually to achieve in their areas of interest.”
“We are particularly pleased to present our Attainment and Achievement Awards in association with the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, highlighting the importance of celebrating the achievements of children and young people in care.
