A nurse in the Renal Unit in Daisy Hill Hospital is the recipient of the Trust’s 2022 ‘Edel Corr Award for Compassionate Care.’
Dympna Sands is the Renal Supportive Care Coordinator and was nominated for the award by Dr Judi Graham, Renal Consultant.
Edel was a highly esteemed nursing colleague who sadly passed away in July 2021. Throughout all her nursing practice, she delivered outstanding compassionate care and this award has been established in her honor.
Dr Judi Graham stated that the Renal Team hold Dympna in the highest regard, and they were delighted to nominate her for this award in recognition of the compassionate, empathetic and warm care that she delivers to her patients.
She added “Despite being in the role for just over a year, Dympna has established a thriving renal supportive care programme in the Southern Trust to the benefit of over 100 patients to date.”
Dympna said: “I am delighted to be recognised for this award and a big thank you to Judi my colleague who nominated me.
“I am privileged to work as part of such a fantastic team in the Renal Unit in Daisy Hill and I believe I couldn’t have achieved this award without their wonderful support.”
The high standard of nominations meant in addition to the overall winner, the judging panel, John Wilkinson – Non-Executive Director, Sharon Love – Head of Nursing and Midwifery Patient Experience and Quality Improvement, Grace Magennis – family member and Terry McGahan- family member, selected joint runners up as the Trust’s Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team and Mrs Maureen Woods, a Social Worker Case Manager in our Adult Learning Disability Team.
