A staff Area of Remembrance has officially opened in Daisy Hill Hospital.
The reflective space, close to the main hospital entryway, will honour and remember the contribution of those who have died and will be a dedicated area for colleagues, families and visitors.
In the heart of this area is a stone bench, generously donated by the McKeever family in memory of Majella McKeever. A second bench is dedicated to Liz Nugent, both fondly remembered staff of Daisy Hill Hospital.
The outdoor space is further enhanced with a commemorative metal tree that has been mounted on the wall. Each leaf, going forward, can honour the memory of a staff member, creating a collective tribute that will grow over time.
Laura Creaney, Bereavement Coordinator explained:
“This staff Area of Remembrance provides a dedicated and meaningful space for families and colleagues to come together in memory of those who have died.
“We recognise that the death of a colleague has a profound impact across the organisation and this place allows us to acknowledge that loss in a respectful way. It is somewhere we can pause, reflect and honour their memory.”
Grace Hamilton, Executive Director Nursing added:
“This space reflects our commitment to supporting our staff and their families with dignity and compassion at the most difficult times. It will ensure that every colleague who contributed to the hospital is remembered in an enduring and visible way.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the McKeever Family for their donation and to our Estates Team for their support in creating a space of comfort and reflection for everyone in Daisy Hill Hospital.”
