Congratulations to Kelly Wylie, Senior Medical Education Manager, and Claire Skelton, Project Manager, from the Southern Trust Medical Education Team, on successfully completing their Master of Science (MSc) in Professional Practice in Medical Education Management at the University of Kent.
Following a three-year programme of part-time study alongside their full-time roles, Kelly graduated with Distinction, while Claire was awarded Merit.
The MSc in Professional Practice in Medical Education Management was developed collaboratively by the University of Kent and the National Association of Medical Education Managers (NAMEM) to support the professionalisation of medical education management and recognise it as a specialist profession.
Kelly and Claire were among the first cohort of just 13 graduates from across the UK to complete this pioneering programme, with the graduation ceremony taking place in the historic Rochester Cathedral.
As part of the programme, both completed research dissertations focusing on important areas within medical education. Kelly’s dissertation, Does Simulation-Based Training Improve Foundation Doctors’ Perceived Confidence and Competence in Managing Medical Emergencies? This project explored the impact of simulation-based training on Foundation Doctors’ preparedness to manage medical emergencies. Claire’s dissertation examined the Barriers to Entry to Medical School, exploring the challenges faced by prospective students and the importance of widening participation to ensure that medicine is accessible to talented individuals from all backgrounds.
Their achievements reflect their dedication, perseverance and commitment to advancing medical education. The knowledge and expertise gained through this programme will continue to benefit medical students, resident doctors, educators and the wider Southern Trust.
