Our thanks to Kathleen Kelly and Patricia Brennan from Great Oaks Senior Citizens Group in Derrynoose for their donation of  35 drain bags/syringe driver bags, 37 mastectomy cushions, blankets and hand muffs to the Mandeville and Glenanne Units at Craigavon Area Hospital.

The group who meet regularly for social contact also like to  contribute to worth while causes. Through their Pins and Needles project they were able to make the items with the support of Take500+ funding.

As it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our Breast Care Nurse Specialist Eimer  and Aine took the time to explain breast awareness to Kathleen and Patricia. Both ladies were surprised to learn that all ladies at the age of 70+ can request three yearly mammograms through the screening service.

They were provided with copies of  the NI Screening Service information booklet ‘Over 70 – what now?’ which provides information and pictures on breast examination what to look and feel for. The booklets also provide contact details for all breast screening units in Northern Ireland.

Aine and Eimer also provided the ladies with breast awareness shower hangers. The ladies are very happy to share this information with their group and will now keep in contact with our cancer unit to continue to supply comfort gifts for our patients.
