25th April 2023
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust’s Autism Service teamed up with the parent group ‘Acorns for Autism’ to host their Spring Family Formal recently.
Always an exciting event in the Autism Service calendar, 180 young people and their families, staff and community partners were delighted to again enjoy the formal evening at the Armagh City Hotel, after a two year enforced break due to the pandemic.
Some of the young people showcased their musical talent and a new booklet ‘Autism and You: A guide for families after diagnosis,’ produced in partnership with young people who have been supported by the service, was launched at the event.
Colm McCafferty, Interim Director of Children and Young People’s Services for the Southern Trust said:
“After missing our formal for the past two years, we were delighted to mark this very special occasion again during Autism Awareness Week. Like any other young people, our service users were delighted to get dressed up and meet with their friends and families for a night out. I would like to thank our whole multidisciplinary team who work diligently to improve the lives of young people living with autism, all of the families for attending in celebration of the wonderful young people and for supporting ‘Acorns for Autism’ parent group who are instrumental in assisting the Trust to improve services.”
