Over 100 social care staff came together yesterday (Wednesday) to highlight that if you ‘Choose Social Care, you Choose Success’.
With over 3000 social care workers employed in the Southern Trust, we were delighted to be joined by a small representation of staff from across Domiciliary care, Adult Community Services, Mental Health services and Children and Young People’s service teams.
Each one of our social care colleagues supports our service users in a broad range of ways to live as independently as possible, or where independence is not possible to be cared for in a compassionate, responsive and caring way to meet their needs.
Colm McCafferty, Director of Children and Young People and Executive Director of Social Work, told those gathered:
“You are this workforce, and today is an opportunity for us to celebrate the work that you do every day. The difference you make in the lives of the people you serve is immeasurable and today is an opportunity to say thank you. It is also an opportunity to shine a light on social care as a career of choice.
“Social care is a career with great scope for growth and development, there is great diversity and flexibility in the range of social care roles across all Directorates. It is a career with immense scope for positively influencing the day to day lives of the people you work with, enabling opportunities for growth and development, living a better life. You really do make the difference.
“Your role in supporting, caring for, protecting and empowering people to live well, and as independently as possible, is invaluable to the people you serve, to our communities and to the Trust. You are at the fore front of delivering practical help and emotional support to individuals, families and communities. Your compassion, kindness and skill in delivering a quality service is very much appreciated.”
