9th December 2025

Hundreds of children and staff from 86 local schools & early years settings from across the Southern Trust took part in the Daily Mile Santa Run organised by the Daily Mile Network NI on Friday 5th December.

Children and staff donned their Santa hats and Christmas jumpers to spread festive cheer. The event highlighted the huge importance of movement for children’s physical and mental wellbeing.

Clare Drummy Physical Activity Lead, Southern Health and Social Care Trust, said “The Daily Mile Santa Run is a wonderful way to bring schools and early years settings together to celebrate the festive season. It shows even small steps can make a huge difference to health, happiness and activity levels. Schools and early years settings really embraced the Santa Run this year in Northern Ireland, the photos and videos shared were just amazing”.

The success of the Santa Run highlights the growing enthusiasm for The Daily Mile initiative, which encourages children and staff to incorporate regular daily physical activity. Remember to get registered and be recognised as a Daily Mile school in Northern Ireland.

Congratulations to all the schools and early years settings who took part – you’ve made this year’s Santa Run amazing! Thank you so much!

The success of the Santa Run demonstrates the enthusiasm for The Daily Mile initiative across Northern Ireland. With support of The Daily Mile Network NI and local partners more themed events are planned to keep children active and healthy!
