This Girl Can… Create Change Inspiration Day
7th June 2023
This Girl Can Create Change is all about inspiring teenage girls to influence & support their peers to become active in a way that suits them. The initiative was funded by The Public Health Agency (PHA) and led by Southern Health & Social Care Trust This Girl Can is designed to inspire and support students to create targeted campaigns that encourage and support their peers to be active in a way that suits them.
For the second year we returned to St Johns Bosco in Newry with our new physical activity ambassadors from four schools across Newry, Mourne area to participate in day of interactive workshops and physical activity sessions aimed at empowering & supporting teenage girls aged 13 to 15 years in their physical activity ambassador roles.
Attending the This Girl Can Inspiration day, Orlaith Moley, Senior Health and Social Wellbeing Officer at the PHA, said: “We know that many girls and young women stop participating in sport as they move through their teenage years and this valuable initiative aims to help change that. Being more active has huge benefits for both physical and mental health and wellbeing, and creating supportive environments to empower more young women to either continue being active, or to re-engage with sport and exercise will help them maintain healthier lifestyles and they in turn can become future role models.”

This Girl Can…create change is about girls and women supporting each other to be active in a way that suits them. The campaign aims to break down barriers to show girls that physical activity is for everyone. No matter who you are, what you look like or what the activity, it’s just all about moving and supporting girls to take part. We are delighted to see such enthusiastic and inspiring girls train up today to be our new physical activity ambassadors from the Newry & Mourne area. They will return to their schools to encourage & support their peers to be active in a way that suits them.
